Zamettar

Zamettar is a ruined city on the northern coast of Sothoryos, sitting at the mouth of the great delta that empties into the sea there. The Ghiscari built it as a penal colony and, centuries later, the dragonlords seized it, after which it stood empty for millennia.

Its name came up again when Nymeria and much of her people chose it as a refuge upon reaching Sothoryos by sea. It remains uninhabited to this day, slowly being swallowed by the jungle.

Chapter 1

Penal colony, conquered city

Books only

The Ghiscari Empire founded Zamettar as a penal colony on the northern coast of Sothoryos, right where the great river's delta meets the sea.

Ghiscari rule did not last: during the Fourth Ghiscari War the dragonlords seized the town by force. Afterward the settlement emptied out and stood abandoned for thousands of years, until another people arriving by sea moved back in.

Chapter 2

Nymeria's landing

Books only

The corsair kings of the Basilisk Isles offered Nymeria land on the Isle of Toads, asking in return for an annual tribute of thirty maiden girls and handsome boys. She turned the offer down.

Instead, Nymeria led her fleet and most of her people to the ruins of Zamettar, empty for thousands of years, and stayed there with the ships. Another group of her people went upriver to settle the ruins of Yeen, and a third headed for Basilisk Point.

Chapter 3

The land that did not want them

Books only

Sothoryos was rich but unforgiving: the climate did not suit the Rhoynar, and mosquitoes brought them one sickness after another, hitting children and the elderly hardest.

Nymeria's decision to leave was sealed when a ship sent to Yeen found the town empty: every man, woman and child there had vanished overnight. Zamettar has stood abandoned ever since, slowly being swallowed by the jungle.
