Lord Massey

Lord Massey was the lord of Ballarroca and head of House Massey in the days of King Maegor I Targaryen, likely the heir of Lucifer Massey.

Of his three sons, the youngest, Albin, carried a limp from birth that kept him away from Ballarroca, training instead to become a maester. A sudden turn in the family's fortunes would end up putting him at the head of the house.

Chapter 1

The Lord of Ballarroca

Books only

Massey inherited, it seems, the lordship of Ballarroca and headship of his house during the reign of Maegor I Targaryen. His predecessor, Lucifer Massey, had died in 42 AC fighting for the king in a trial of seven champions, and everything suggests Massey took his place.

He had three sons. The youngest, Albin, was born with a spinal deformity that left him lame for life, and because of it his parents sent him away from Ballarroca to the Citadel, to forge a maester's chain far from the path his older brothers followed.

Chapter 2

Fever in Ballarroca

47 ACBooks only

In 47 AC, fever struck down Lord Massey and his two elder sons within a short span of each other. Ballarroca was left without a lord and without the heirs everyone had counted on.

Word reached the Citadel, where Albin was still training for his chain. He left his studies unfinished and returned to Ballarroca: the limp that had once set him apart from the lordship no longer mattered, since no one else in the family remained to take it up.
