Stonedance

Ballarroca

Stonedance is the castle at the heart of House Massey's lands, raised on the eastern shore of Massey's Hook facing the Narrow Sea, within the Crownlands.

For centuries it served as the seat of a small kingdom with ambitions of its own, before ending up answering directly to the throne in King's Landing.

Chapter 1

The Massey stronghold

Books only

Maldon Massey raised Stonedance when he founded his house, in the days when Massey's Hook still answered to King Durran Durrandon, known as the Crow's Friend. From then on the castle gave name and seat to a line that would soon start carving its own path.

Chapter 2

The end of the Stonedance kings

Books only

When the Masseys broke faith with the Durrandons, they turned Stonedance into the seat of their own power and ruled from it as kings in their own right. King Qarlton the Conqueror laid siege to the castle for a full year before taking it, and King Josua Massey died with its fall.

Qarlton's victory did not last. Within two years, the andal warlord Togarion Bar Emmon drove his garrisons out of the castle and founded his own kingdom over Massey's Hook.

Chapter 3

Under the dragon's wing

Books only

By the time the War of Conquest came, Stonedance belonged to Lord Triston Massey, a vassal of King Argilac the Arrogant but bound more closely to Aegon Targaryen, lord of Dragonstone. The Masseys sided with the Targaryens in that war, and the castle was folded into the new Crownlands, owing its loyalty directly to whichever king ruled from King's Landing.
