Ryswell was one of six men who rode with Eddard Stark to the Tower of Joy, where they found three knights of the Kingsguard holding the place to keep Lord Eddard from taking his sister Lyanna.
He died in the fight that followed; of the six, only Eddard Stark and Howland Reed survived. His remains were buried beneath one of the eight cairns Eddard raised on the ridge, built from the stones of the tower itself.
