House Caswell of Bitterbridge

Lord Caswell stayed loyal to King Maegor I Targaryen when Prince Aegon claimed the Iron Throne for himself. Alongside Lord Rowan and Lord Merryweather, he mustered Reach troops and marched them north to block his path, until the two sides clashed on the shore of the Gods Eye.

During the Dance of the Dragons, Tom Flowers, the Bastard of Bitterbridge, swore himself to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and led troops at the Battle of the Honeywine. There the dragon Tessarion's fire caught him when Prince Daeron joined the fight, and he burned on the field.

Prince Maelor Targaryen's murder cost Bitterbridge dearly: Lord Ormund Hightower burned the town in reprisal and came to demand answers of Lady Caswell. She asked only for mercy for her children, then hanged herself from the castle walls.

Ser Cleyton Caswell was one of the knights who sought Lady Rohanne Webber's hand.

Generations later, the house fought for the Targaryens in the Blackfyre Rebellion. Ser Kyle claimed to have saved Lord Armond Caswell's life during that war, and years afterward Armond's son, Lord Joffrey Caswell, unhorsed him in the first tilt of the tourney at Whitewalls.

Lord Lorent Caswell swore himself to Renly Baratheon as soon as the War of the Five Kings broke out, and it was he who received the king when Renly's army camped beneath the walls of Bitterbridge.

After Renly's death, Lord Caswell threw in with no other side: he shut himself inside his castle.

While tracking Sansa Stark's whereabouts, Brienne of Tarth comes across two guards at the gates of Maidenpool wearing House Caswell's livery.
