House Costayne of Three Towers

Casa Costayne de Tres Torres

House Costayne of Three Towers is a noble house of the Reach, sworn to the Hightowers, whose arms quarter a silver chalice on black with a black rose on gold.

It is one of many minor southern houses that turn up in the realm's great episodes without ever standing at their centre: one name among others on a list of brides, one more banner among those raised in a rebellion.

Chapter 1

Candidates for a widowed throne

Books only

When Queen Jaehaera Targaryen died, the realm was left with a young king and no queen. Lady Samantha Tarly, eager to tie the crown to the Reach, wrote directly to Aegon III proposing names of marriageable ladies.

Among the candidates she set down were girls of House Costayne, mixed in with those of other noble houses of the south.

Chapter 2

The wrong side of the Iron Throne

Books only

Decades later, the house took up arms for the side that ended up losing. When the Blackfyre Rebellion broke out, the Costaynes stood with Daemon Blackfyre rather than with the rightful king, Daeron II Targaryen, his own half-brother.
