House Harroway held Harrenhal as its third ruling family, taking the castle once the Qoherys line died out, and from there answered King Maegor I Targaryen's call when he needed swords to hold his crown.
Their name stayed bound to Harrenhal, and more quietly, to a riverlands village still named for one of their lords.

When the Qoherys line died out, Harrenhal passed to the Harroways, making them the third family to rule the castle Harren the Black had built.
As lords of that fortress by the Gods Eye, the Harroways fought for King Maegor I Targaryen in the battle waged beneath the lake's waters, lending their swords to the crown in one of the harshest clashes of his reign.

The slaughter of the Harroways

The house's end came through Queen Alys Harroway, who bore King Maegor I a son born deformed. Queen Tyanna used that birth to plant in the king's mind the suspicion of a betrayal hatched by the Harroways.
Convinced of that betrayal, Maegor ordered every living Harroway put to the sword. With the family gone, Harrenhal changed hands once more and was granted to House Towers.
