House Uller of Hellholt
Casa Uller de Sotoinferno
House Uller of Hellholt is a noble house of Dorne, sworn to House Martell, seated in the castle of Hellholt beside the Brimstone river. A Dornish saying sums up their reputation: half the Ullers are half mad, and the other half is worse.
Their line goes back to the Andal invasion of Dorne, and the house is remembered across the realm for the part it played against the Targaryen conquest.
Chapter 1
The feast that founded Hellholt
Books only
When the Andals crossed the narrow sea and invaded Dorne, the Ullers settled beside the Brimstone river, in a stretch of yellowed water and heavy air. There they raised a dark castle that would end up giving the house its name.
That name, Hellholt, comes from a brutal episode: a Lord Uller invited his rivals to a feast, sealed the hall shut and burned them alive inside. That same massacre gave the house its sigil, flames of gules on a field of gold.
Chapter 2
The alliance with Nymeria
Books only
In the war against King Yorick V Yronwood, the Ullers stood with Nymeria and House Martell. When Prince Mors Martell died in that conflict, the warrior queen went on to marry the reigning lord of Hellholt, by then an old man.
Chapter 3
The death of Meraxes
Books only
When the First Dornish War broke out, Lord Harlen Tyrell marched on Hellholt; the road claimed a great many of his men before he ever reached the castle. When he finally got there, he found the halls empty — the Ullers had already fled. Tyrell then pushed on toward Vaith and vanished on that stretch of road, never to be found.
Meanwhile Queen Rhaenys Targaryen was laying waste to Hellholt astride Meraxes, and it was there that the Dornish struck their hardest blow against the conquerors: they brought down both the dragon and the queen herself. Some say Rhaenys was not killed quickly, but tortured before the end. The reprisal came afterward, with as many as four lords of Hellholt put to the sword.
