Ashemark

Marcaceniza

Ashemark is the seat of House Marbrand, a castle raised among the hills of the Westerlands where the Falls River rises.

Its lords answer to Casterly Rock, and the castle has seen royal travelers pass through its gates as well as armies in times of war.

Chapter 1

The Targaryens pass through

Princess Rhaena Targaryen stopped at Ashemark after leaving Casterly Rock behind, in the year 51. She did not linger, soon moving on toward Castamere.

Four years later, in 55, King Jaehaerys I himself paused at the castle during his royal progress through the Westerlands.

Chapter 2

The castle falls

With the War of the Five Kings already under way, and after the Lannister forces are broken at Oxcross, Robb Stark takes Ashemark.

The young king does not linger there: he leaves the castle behind and marches on toward the Crag. When Catelyn Tully learns at Riverrun that Storm's End has yielded to Stannis Baratheon, she has maester Vyman send a raven to Ashemark, hoping some rider might still reach Robb with the news.

Chapter 3

The withdrawal

Books only

Robb eventually gives up the castles he had won in the Westerlands, Ashemark among them, and pulls his forces back to Riverrun.
