Broken Arm
el Brazo Roto
The Broken Arm is the southeastern tip of the Dornish peninsula, a stretch of coastline that has crumbled into a chain of islands now known as the Stepstones.
Its current shape is not the original one: before it broke apart, that strip of land joined Westeros to Essos, and it was the route by which the first human settlers reached the continent.
Chapter 1
The bridge into Westeros
Books only
Before it broke, the Dornish Arm was solid ground running from the south of the continent all the way to Essos, with no sea between the two shores.
The First Men crossed by that route, settling Westeros and going to war with the Children of the Forest, the people who already lived there.
Chapter 2
The breaking of the Arm
Books only
Trying to stop the invasion, the Children of the Forest turned to their magic and sent the waters tearing through that strip of land until it broke apart.
The Stepstones rose from that break, and the Narrow Sea joined the Summer Sea where solid ground had stood before.
The spell did not win the war: the First Men had already settled in Westeros, and the fighting with the Children of the Forest went on regardless.
What we are not sure about
PositionWe worked it out
The position was inferred from the label on the base map rather than from a symbol of its own: it marks the area, not the point.
