The Summer Sea
el mar del Verano
Not to be confused with The Summer Sea (sea).
The Summer Sea is the body of water that separates southern Westeros from Sothoryos and the southern coasts of Essos, holding within it the Summer Isles and the Slaver's Bay.
Traders and raiders bound for other shores of the known world cross it, and its edges mark both the gateway to Sothoryos and the boundary with the Narrow Sea and the Jade Sea.
Chapter 1
The southern waters
Books and show
South of Dorne this stretch of sea opens up, reaching the shores of Sothoryos and the southern edge of Essos. Within it lie the Summer Isles, and its waters also reach the Slaver's Bay.
To the east it meets the Jade Sea at the straits of Qarth and Cinnamon, and to the north it is cut off from the Narrow Sea by the chain of islands known as the Stepstones.
