Dornish Marches
las Marcas de Dorne
The Dornish Marches are the stretch of the Red Mountains that separates Dorne from the Reach and the Stormlands, a border that for centuries decided which of the three kingdoms held each strip of land.
They are ruled today by House Foote from Nightsong, alongside other lesser march houses, heirs to a territory that changed hands more than once by force of arms.
Chapter 1
A thousand-year border
Books only
For more than a thousand years the Marches were the ground where Dorne, the Reach and the Stormlands tested each other, until Dorne was finally joined to the Seven Kingdoms.
Before that union, the area was seized by the Storm Kings, who held it as a stronghold to shield their own lands from Dornish advances.
Chapter 2
The changing of Nightsong
Books only
Until the Battle of the Blackwater, the Dornish Marches belonged to House Caron.
That changed when Ser Philip Foote killed Lord Bryce Caron: the Iron Throne answered by granting him the lands, rights and titles that had belonged to House Caron, and with them the rule of the region passed to House Foote of Nightsong.
