Golden Tooth

Tradition holds that Cerion Lannister, King of the Rock, subdued Golden Tooth and the surrounding hills after defeating a coalition of petty kings who had risen against him.

Gold mines were opened beneath those hills, and over the centuries they helped make House Lannister one of the wealthiest in Westeros.

In the year 45 AC, with the realm shaken by the Faith Militant uprising, the lands north of Golden Tooth fell under the control of Ser Joffrey Doggett, Grand Captain of the Warrior's Sons, while neither Casterly Rock nor Riverrun sent a man to stop him.

During one of the wars of the Blackfyre pretenders, Daemon Blackfyre's supporters won a notable victory at Golden Tooth: Ser Quentyn Ball killed Lord Lefford, master of the fortress, and drove Lord Damon Lannister into flight.

When Catelyn Stark took Tyrion Lannister prisoner, Casterly Rock and Riverrun called their banners, and the Lannister armies gathered at the pass beneath Golden Tooth. A force under Ser Jaime Lannister fell upon the troops Riverrun had sent to bar the road into the Riverlands and routed them: this was the Battle of the Golden Tooth, the opening clash of the War of the Five Kings.

The victory did not last. After the Battle of the Whispering Wood, where Jaime was taken captive, and the rout at the Battle of the Camps, the survivors of the Lannister host fell back to Golden Tooth once more, this time under Ser Forley Prester.

Proclaimed King in the North, Robb Stark's lands were bounded to the west by Golden Tooth and to the east by the Mountains of the Moon. Rather than force that pass, his army skirted it along a mountain track his direwolf Grey Wind had found, and fell upon Ser Stafford Lannister's troops at the Battle of Oxcross.

Golden Tooth later served as neutral ground: Martyn Lannister was traded there for Robett Glover, and Ser Daven Lannister arrived there with the remnants of his father's army to join Ser Forley Prester before marching on Riverrun.

After the surrender of Riverrun, Edmure Tully was led prisoner to Casterly Rock under the escort of Ser Forley Prester, along a road that once again ran through Golden Tooth.
