Khyzai Pass is the only mountain road linking the lands of Meereen with Lhazar, beyond a range of round-topped sandstone hills. When left open, it is the route caravans use to carry grain and food between the lamb men and the slaver city.

Daenerys TargaryenWith the sea and the river closed off, Daenerys Targaryen looks for a land route into Lhazar and sends Daario Naharis and the Stormcrows to talk the lamb men into reopening trade through the pass. It is no easy sell: Lhazar holds little love for Meereen.
The Yunkai'i answer by sending the Long Lances to shut the pass down. The Stormcrows fall on them at night and scatter them; nine of their own die, but twelve of the Long Lances end up joining the company instead.
Daario comes back with half a bargain: wheat would come down the Skahazadhan on barges, the rest of the supplies by caravan through Khyzai. Daenerys has to correct him — Qarthene ships under Xaro Xhoan Daxos have already sealed the river, so the pass is all that is left.
Selmy is ordered to send the Stormcrows to range near Yunkai and escort any caravan coming through Khyzai. Not long after, Daenerys spots two Ghiscari legions camped east of Meereen, cutting the road.
