Mouth of the Mander

desembocadura del Mander

The mouth of the Mander is where the Reach's mightiest river opens into the sea, flanked by the Shield Islands. Under the kings of House Gardener, fortifications were raised there to watch over the river's entrance and give warning of any danger approaching by water.

Chapter 1

Sentinels at the river's mouth

Books only

While the kings of House Gardener ruled, defensive works went up on the Shield Islands, right where the Mander meets the sea. The purpose was to control passage into the river and give early warning if any fleet approached by that route.

What we are not sure about

  1. PositionWe worked it out

The position was inferred from the label on the base map rather than from a symbol of its own: it marks the area, not the point.

  2. NameThe sources disagree

The reading of the label on the base map is not certain. What was read was “Mouth of the Mander”.

  3. Spanish nameWe worked it out

The Spanish name is the atlas’s own reviewed translation, not the one in the published Gigamesh edition, which does not fix it.
