N'ghai

N'ghai was once a kingdom that stretched along the eastern coast of Essos, between the plains where the Jogos Nhai riders roam and the waters of the Shivering Sea, with the Bleeding Sea closing off the way south.

Of that territory only the city of Nefer remains today, the last stronghold to hold out against its neighbours' constant pressure, and the place where a Westerosi sailor first set foot on these distant shores.

Chapter 1

Between two seas and a river

Books only

The kingdom lies northeast of the Jogos Nhai plains and west of Mossovy, on a strip of coast bounded by two different seas. The Bleeding Sea beats against it in the south; to the north, the cold waters of the Shivering Sea spread between the coast and the Thousand Islands, visible from the shore.

The land changes character from place to place: to the southeast it thickens into forest, while to the west it is bounded by a river running down to the sea. It is there, at the river's mouth and along the shore of the Shivering Sea, that Nefer stands, the city that now lends its name to what little remains of the kingdom.

Chapter 2

The Jogos Nhai's slow siege

In this chapterCorlys Velaryon

N'ghai was once a proud kingdom; the constant raids of the Jogos Nhai nomads wore it down until only Nefer and the lands around it were left. Nothing survives of the old realm's map or borders, only the city that still stands.

Nefer also holds a place in Westerosi history: it was the first city of N'ghai a Westerosi ever set foot in, when Corlys Velaryon visited during one of his voyages east.
