Addam of Hull

He was born in 114, Marilda's firstborn; she was a shipwright at Hull who came to own several ships of her own. His brother Alyn came later, and the two grew up amid the noise of the slips where their grandfather worked the timber.

Accounts of their father differed: Marilda said it was Ser Laenor Velaryon, and Lord Corlys accepted that story without argument, though not everyone believed it. Mushroom the jester, for his part, claimed the real father was Lord Corlys himself. True or not, the brothers grew up working, crewing the Mouse and other ships their mother owned.

When the war for the Iron Throne broke out, the Blacks had more dragons than riders and looked for volunteers at Dragonstone. Addam, fifteen years old, approached Seasmoke, the dragon left masterless by Ser Laenor Velaryon's death, and managed to mount her.

The feat convinced Lord Corlys and Prince Jacaerys to ask Queen Rhaenyra to accept Addam into House Velaryon. She agreed and knighted him: the son of a shipwright now carried the name of one of the realm's great houses.

Now a knight, Addam fought alongside the other dragonseeds and Prince Jacaerys against the Triarchy's fleet at the Gullet. They won the battle, but Jacaerys and his dragon Vermax fell in it. Once the fighting ended, by Mushroom's account, Addam sought out Lord Corlys alone, undone by the loss.

Addam also took part in the fall of King's Landing. When the city fell, every rider landed except Rhaenyra and himself, who stayed aloft keeping watch while she descended.

With the court settled in the capital, Addam remained there with Seasmoke alongside Prince Joffrey and his dragon Tyraxes. Since the queen preferred to keep Syrax at her own side, the custom of always stationing one rider at the Dragonpit fell to him.

After the betrayals at Ladera, someone named Addam too among those who had switched sides, and his arrest was ordered. He flew off on Seasmoke before they could take him.

Legend says he took refuge at Árbol de los Cuervos seeking counsel and returned with four thousand men ready to fight for Rhaenyra. He died soon after at Ladera, having brought down both Vermithor and Tessarion alongside his own dragon.

His remains were first taken to Árbol de los Cuervos and did not return to Driftmark until 138. His brother, by then Lord Alyn, had a single word carved on the tombstone: Loyal.
