The Jade Sea

el mar de Jade

The Jade Sea is the body of water that separates the farthest shores of Essos from lands that barely appear on Westerosi maps. For those who live in the west it feels almost like a frontier of legend: few travel there, and fewer still return with firsthand tales.

A circuit of merchants works its way around these waters, though completing the journey swallows years of a life.

Chapter 1

The merchants' circuit

Books only

A trading circuit runs along the shores of the Jade Sea, carrying merchants from port to port. From Pentos, sailing there and back again takes close to two full years under the best conditions.

Beyond those traders, almost no one from Westeros ventures that far, and what reaches western ears about the region is thin and secondhand. Yi Ti and Asshai are said to lie along its farthest shores, though few can vouch for it themselves.

Past Yi Ti, on the eastern coast, a legendary city of poets is said to stand, of which nothing remains but the legend itself.

Chapter 2

A sea between seas

Books only

The Jade Sea lies south of Essos, stretched between the coasts of Sothoryos and Ulthos. The Cinnamon Strait and another channel separate it from the Summer Sea, and to the east it empties into the Saffron Strait.

Its waters hold islands of very different sizes. The largest are Great Moraq and Leng; smaller ones scattered among them include Marahai, the Isle of Elephants, the Manticore Isles, and the Isle of Whips.

The physical world

Hay un círculo de comercio que lleva mercaderes a su alrededor. Se tarda aproximadamente dos años en viajar desde Pentos al Mar de Jade y volver, en las mejores condiciones.
