Tyria
Tyria was a city at the northern tip of an island in the Smoking Sea, on the edge of the peninsula that was once the heart of Valyria. Its wealth came from the Freehold, which ruled it from afar and never let it speak with its own voice.
All that remains of its streets is rubble, and a persistent rumor that something still lives among it.
Chapter 1
Subjects of the Freehold
Books only
Tyria stood at the northern end of an island lost in the Smoking Sea, facing the shores of Oros. A valyrian road linked it southward to Valyria itself, crossing the rest of the peninsula.
The city gathered considerable wealth and shone among the Freehold's possessions. But that splendor bought it no independence: those who ruled it were envoys sent from Valyria, and they always spoke in the Freehold's name, never their own.
Chapter 2
What was left after the Doom
Books only
The Doom of Valyria swept over Tyria as well. Of the rich city linked by roads, nothing remained but abandoned ruins on its island in the Smoking Sea.
Unreliable stories tell of malign creatures that made their home among those ruins. Others deny it and prefer to think no one lives there at all, that the only thing left among the stones is the Doom itself, still lingering.
