Vaes Mejhah
Vaes Mejhah is a ruined city in Essos, south of the Dothraki sea and northeast of Lhazar, on the banks of the river Skahazadhan. Its Dothraki name betrays its past: it was once a Ghiscari city, razed by the horselords during the Century of Blood.

A Ghiscari city on Dothraki ground

Vaes Mejhah was once a Ghiscari city, standing in lands the khalasars would come to rule. Nothing remains of it now but ruins, and its position explains its fate: the Dothraki sea lies to its south, and the river Skahazadhan once ran through it, the same waters that also touch the nearby ruins of Vaes Efe.
The city's own name carries the mark of those who ended it. It is Dothraki, not Ghiscari, and its second half comes from a word meaning whore: the horselords renamed it their own way once they had taken it.

The Century of Blood

Vaes Mejhah's destruction came during the Century of Blood, when the Dothraki khalasars tore down one Ghiscari city after another across the region. What survived was not the name its founders gave it, but the one its destroyers chose instead.
