Wyl
Not to be confused with Wyl (castle).
Wyl is the seat of House Wyl, standing by the Boneway near the mouth of the river that shares its name, in Dorne.
The place was written into the history of Aegon the Conqueror's reign by an episode of cruelty and reprisal in the earliest years of the new kingdom.
Chapter 1
The ransom of Orys Baratheon

In the year 7 AC, during the First Dornish War, the lord of Wyl freed Orys Baratheon and the rest of the prisoners the Dornishmen had taken at the start of the campaign.
The ransom price was each captive's weight in gold, paid before they were sent back to King's Landing. But the lord of Wyl did not let them go whole: every one of them, Orys Baratheon included, had his sword hand cut off.
Chapter 2
The reprisal of fire and stone

Aegon I Targaryen answered in person: he flew over the Wyl stronghold astride Balerion and turned its towers and strongholds into molten stone.
The inhabitants fled to the caves that pierced the mountainside, and there they sheltered from the dragon's flames.
