Elia Sand
On this tab
Elia Sand is one of the bastard daughters of Prince Oberyn Martell and his paramour Ellaria Sand, and one of the so-called Sand Snakes of Dorne.
Raised among her sisters, she shares their love of weapons and horses, and is known throughout Dorne for her skill with the spear.
Origins
Birth and Family
Elia was born in 286, the daughter of Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand. Her name is thought to honor Elia Martell, Oberyn's sister, to whom he had been close and who had already died by the time Elia was born.
Alongside Obella, closest to her in age, Elia grew up looking up to her older sisters, the most renowned of the Sand Snakes.

Water Gardens
Confinement in the Water Gardens
When Oberyn died and Prince Doran had the elder Sand Snakes arrested, fearing they would be drawn into their plots, Elia, her mother, and her sisters were confined to the Water Gardens, away from any conspiracy.
There, along with Obella, Elia is said to have become a menace to anyone bathing in the palace pools.

Appearance and Character
Elia wears her hair in a black braid and has inherited her father's eyes. She is wild and haughty by nature, fond of horses and jousting, and rides a black filly.
Her weapon of choice is the spear, which earned her the nickname Lady Lance: her cousin Arianne Martell believes Oberyn himself gave it to her.
