House Goodbrother of Hammerhorn
Casa Goodbrother de Cuernomartillo
House Goodbrother of Hammerhorn is one of the great houses of Great Wyk, a vassal of House Greyjoy and one of the wealthiest families in the Iron Islands, its riches drawn from the mines its people work rather than the iron its men reave from the sea.
Its blood has branched into several lesser houses scattered across the island, a mark of a name spread wide and a standing few other ironborn clans can match.
Chapter 1
The lords of Hammerhorn
Books and show
Hammerhorn appears on no map of the Iron Islands, yet the weight of its lords is felt all the same: the Goodbrothers rank among the most powerful houses of Great Wyk, sworn like every other ironborn clan to House Greyjoy.
Their arms show a black warhorn banded in gold on a field of red — a call to war that sits oddly with a fortune built not on raiding, but on the mines worked in their own ground.
Three branches have grown from Hammerhorn's stock: the Goodbrothers of Monteorca, of Lago del Cadáver, and of Fosa. Today Gorold Goodbrother rules as Lord of Hammerhorn, with Greydon Goodbrother as his heir.
Chapter 2
A debt paid in blood
Books only
During the regency of Aegon III, the coasts of the Westerlands suffered the ironborn's usual raids. Lady Johanna, Lady of Casterly Rock, did not settle for building up defenses: she persuaded Ser Leo Costayne to carry the war to the Iron Islands themselves.
The reprisal fell on Great Wyk as well, and among the dead of that campaign was Lord Goodbrother himself, head of the house. Hammerhorn paid with its lord's life for its men's habit of living off other men's sea.
