House Hollard
Casa Hollard
House Hollard was a minor house of the Crownlands, sworn to the Darklyns of Duskendale and joined to them by marriage since very ancient times.
It is remembered above all for how close it came to vanishing: a royal crackdown wiped out almost the entire family, leaving only one of its members alive.
Chapter 1
The wives of the petty kings
Books only
During the Age of Heroes, when the Darklyns still ruled as petty kings over Duskendale, House Hollard tied its fortunes to that crown: several of its daughters married those kings, long before the Targaryens unified the realm.
The house's arms were barred gules and carnation beneath a blue chief bearing three golden crowns, and its members remained vassals of the Darklyns within the Crownlands.
Chapter 2
The Defiance of Duskendale
Books only
The house's fortunes turned with the Defiance of Duskendale, the Darklyn revolt against King Aerys II Targaryen: the crackdown that followed killed almost every member of House Hollard, put to death by royal order.
Only one of them survived, the young Dontos Hollard, because Ser Barristan Selmy asked the king for mercy on his behalf, arguing that neither the boy nor his father — who had died before the offense took place — had taken any part in it.
