The Kennings of Harlaw bear on their shield the gesture of a hand hurling lightning: the hand of the Storm God. Today they serve the Harlaws, lords of their island, though the bond between the two houses did not begin as a pact between equals.
From this line came also the branch that took root at Kayce, in another corner of the Iron Islands.
Chapter 1
From enemies to vassals

There was a time when the Kennings bent the knee to no one on Harlaw. They fought House Harlaw for mastery of the island, and lost.
Out of that defeat came the oath that still binds them: from rivals they became vassals, and ever since they have served the house they once fought.
Chapter 2
The Kayce branch

A Kenning named Herrock left Harlaw and laid the foundations of his own branch at Kayce.
From then on the Kennings were split between two settlements of the Iron Islands, bound by blood even as the sea kept them apart.
