Bronzegate

Long before the Seven Kingdoms existed as such, this ground saw war between the storm kings and the Andals arriving from across the Narrow Sea. Monfryd V Durrandon stood against the Holy Hundred by these very walls and beat them back, but he did not walk off that field.

The castle remained as the seat of House Buckler, keeper of this corner of the Stormlands, the battle that gave it its name settling into regional legend.

Centuries later, the Durrandon dynasty went out near these same hills. Orys Baratheon, leading the armies of Aegon the Conqueror, met the last storm king, Argilac Durrandon, in the battle history would remember as the Last Storm.

The fighting took place south of Bronzegate rather than within its walls, but the castle stayed bound to that final storm ever after — the moment House Baratheon replaced the Durrandons as lords of this land.

Much later, removed from kings and crowns, Bronzegate had become simply a place to pass through. Brienne of Tarth crossed it on her journey from Tarth toward Highgarden, one stop among many on a long road.

There's no battle to tell from that crossing, only the reminder that this land still sits astride the route between the stormlands' south and the Reach.

Not long after, it was Lord Ralph Buckler who opened the castle's gates to a group of Dornishmen led by Oberyn Martell, on their way north.

The Bucklers' hospitality toward those travelers stands as a brief footnote in the history of a castle mostly used to watching people pass by.
