Baratheon

Baratheon was one of the daughters of Lord Lyonel Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End during the reign of Aegon V Targaryen. Her name has not survived, but her betrothal to the heir to the Iron Throne is the reason she is remembered: when the match fell through, her father answered by rising against the Crown.

Chapter 1

The broken betrothal

From 237 ACBooks only

King Aegon V had come to doubt the old Targaryen custom of wedding siblings to each other, and with the support of Queen Betha Blackwood he sought another path: marrying his children into the great houses of the Seven Kingdoms to win their loyalty. The matches were arranged and celebrated in 237 AC, while the intended couples were still children. Among them was the betrothal of Prince Duncan Targaryen, heir to the throne, to a daughter of Lord Lyonel Baratheon.

When the time came, Duncan refused to honor his part of the arrangement, and Lord Lyonel answered with arms, going so far as to proclaim himself King of the Storm. The revolt ended when Ser Duncan of the Kingsguard defeated him in single combat. By way of amends, Aegon V then offered the hand of his youngest daughter, Princess Rhaelle Targaryen, to Lord Lyonel's eldest son.
