Eastwatch-by-the-Sea

Eastwatch-by-the-Sea is the Night's Watch castle that closes the Wall on its eastern, sunrise end, with the grey coast of the Bay of Seals at its feet. From here the Watch keeps an eye on the sea to match what it guards on land.
Its galleys are the closest thing the Night's Watch has to a real fleet, which makes Eastwatch more than a frontier post: it is the watch kept on the Narrow Sea and on whoever might come across it.

The castle of the galleys

Eastwatch-by-the-Sea closes the Wall on its eastern end, where the stone runs down into a grey, wind-scoured coast facing the Bay of Seals. It is one of the Night's Watch's active castles and, unlike most others, has its own maester. A handful of fisherfolk live near its walls, and Greenguard stands further west.
By around 298 AC its garrison numbered close to two hundred men, commanded by Cotter Pyke. From here the Watch's galleys sail out — some large enough to cross the Narrow Sea, others small and fast, built to run down the smugglers who sell weapons to the wildlings along the bay.
Chapter 2
The plan to resettle Long Barrow

During the events of A Clash of Kings, Lord Commander Mormont considers using the men of Eastwatch for something other than patrolling the sea: he wants to send them to resettle Long Barrow, one of the Wall's castles that have stood empty for some time.
It is not recorded whether the move ever happened, or how many men actually left Eastwatch for that purpose.
