Hull
La Quilla
Hull is a port town on the coast of Driftmark, grown from three older fishing settlements. Its rise tracked that of House Velaryon, whose ships and wealth turned its shipyards into a place worth knowing.
The town was marked by the Dance of the Dragons: sailors, merchants and at least one dragonrider came from its streets, and its harbor survived a war that leveled other settlements on the island.

Three towns by the water

Corlys VelaryonThe town formed from three small fishing settlements that grew together as House Velaryon's fortune multiplied. Lord Corlys Velaryon, the Sea Snake, returned again and again from his voyages with treasures that fed that growth, and his own lord visited the shipyards there more than once.
Chapter 2
Sealing the Gullet
Books only
When the Dance of the Dragons broke out, Corlys ordered his fleet to sail from Hull and from Spicetown to seal the Gullet. The war struck the island unevenly: Spicetown and High Tide were razed and never rebuilt, while Hull and the seat of Driftmark, on the other side of the island, came through unharmed.
Among the streets of the town, alongside Spicetown's, another dragonseed, Nettles, also grew up.

The sons in doubt

Laenor Velaryon
Rhaenyra TargaryenHull was the birthplace of Addam and Alyn, two bastard sons of Marilda, a shipwright's daughter turned merchant sharp enough to own seven ships by 130 AC. Marilda claimed their father had been the late Ser Laenor Velaryon, known to have visited the town's shipyard; the fool Mushroom instead insisted the boys were Lord Corlys's own sons.
Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen settled the matter in her own way, acknowledging both as true Velaryons after Addam managed to mount the dragon Seasmoke.
Chapter 4
The king's return and the Oakenfist muster

Aegon II TargaryenIn 131 AC, when King Aegon II Targaryen returned to King's Landing from Dragonstone, it was Alyn who arranged his passage, carrying him aboard the Mouse, his mother's old ship. Not long after, before setting out to face the Red Kraken, Lord Dalton Greyjoy, Alyn Oakenfist gathered his fleet at Hull itself.
Chapter 5
The Lysene Spring and the Mousehole

During the Lysene Spring, the town enjoyed a run of good years: dozens of new ships were built, and Marilda expanded her trading fleets further still. Over the harbor she raised a mansion so showy that Mushroom mockingly dubbed it the "Mousehole".
Chapter 6
The tomb of the loyal one
130–138 ACBooks only
Addam had died in 130 AC at the second battle of Tumbleton, after Rhaenyra named him a traitor before everyone. His remains stayed far from home until Lord Benjicot Blackwood returned them from Raventree Hall, and in 138 AC his brother Alyn, by then a lord himself, buried them in Hull.
On the headstone he had a single word carved, "LOYAL", framed by carvings of a seahorse and a mouse.
