The Rhoyne is the longest and mightiest river in Essos, formed where the High Rhoyne and the Little Rhoyne meet near the ruins of Ghoyan Drohe. As it runs toward the sea it gathers the waters of several tributaries and empties into a vast delta, the site of the Free City of Volantis.
It is the ancestral homeland of the Rhoynar, who revere it as an almost divine figure known as Mother Rhoyne.

The course of the river

The river begins at the confluence of the High Rhoyne and the Little Rhoyne, southeast of the ruins of Ghoyan Drohe. From there it grows as it flows south and east, swollen by tributaries such as the Qhoyne, the Noyne, and the Lhorulu.
Its waters and banks shelter river pirates, and its course finally opens into a huge delta, where the Free City of Volantis stands.
