Spottswood

Bosquepinto

Not to be confused with Brindlewood (town).

Spottswood is the seat of House Santagar, raised in southeastern Dorne. Almost nothing survives of its history beyond two accounts: a war that left it with no one to defend it, and a king's anecdote about the habits of its knights.

Chapter 1

In southeastern Dorne

Books only

Spottswood is the seat of House Santagar, standing in southeastern Dorne near Los Tablones and Limonar. Nothing is recorded of when it was built, nor of anything that happened there before the war that finally earned it a place in the chronicles.

Chapter 2

A castle without swords

Books only

During the First Dornish War, Queen Rhaenys Targaryen marched south after burning Los Tablones, already bound for Sunspear. Spottswood was a stop along that advance.

When the queen reached the stronghold there was no one to fight: only children and old folk remained inside, no soldier to bar her way. Rhaenys took the castle without a fight and rode on.

Chapter 3

The knight and his sand horses

Books only

In The Conquest of Dorne, King Daeron I Targaryen wrote down a custom that caught his notice: the Knight of Spottswood kept the horses he rode in the sand right inside his own hall.

It is the last thing recorded about the castle. Generations of Targaryen kings separate Rhaenys's arrival from Daeron's account, and nothing further has reached the record.
