After the Long Night, House Fisher ruled these stones as kings, a title they kept until the Kings of Winter reduced them to vassals of Winterfell. Whether any Fisher remains in the area, or whether the line simply died out, is not known.

Later, during the reign of Harrag Hoare over the Iron Islands, it was the ironborn who seized control of the shore for themselves.

Theon Greyjoy lands on the Stony Shore with orders to burn its villages and sink every ship he comes across. Benfred Tallhart marches out to stop him, but falls into an ambush that ends with his capture and death.

As the war grinds on, it is the ironborn who end up holding most of this stretch of coast.

Asha Greyjoy tells Lord Rodrik Harlaw that she sailed the whole shore aboard Black Wind looking for a wet nurse for Erena Glover, and found nothing but a goat.

At the kingsmoot on Old Wyk, contested after her father Balon's death, Asha tries to talk the ironborn into making peace with the North and settling for this shore and Sea Dragon Point. Instead, they choose the war her uncle Euron promises.

To end the Siege of Moat Cailin, Ramsay Bolton offers the ironborn garrison safe passage to the Stony Shore, from where they would sail back to the Iron Islands. The moment they surrender, he has them all killed.

Meanwhile, shore villagers who had fled ironborn rule find shelter with King Stannis Baratheon after the recapture of Deepwood Motte.
