Yronwood

Palosanto

Yronwood is the castle standing watch over the head of the Boneway, the pass linking Dorne to the Stormlands, and for generations it has been the seat of House Yronwood.

Before Dorne was united under a single throne, its lords were among the richest and most powerful in the region, and the castle remains a key point for anyone crossing between Dorne and the lands beyond the mountains.

Chapter 1

The kings of the Boneway

Books only

The Yronwoods descended from First Men explorers who settled where the Red Mountains meet the Sea of Dorne. There they built Yronwood, on land that was fertile, well defended, and rich in forests and deposits of iron, tin, and silver.

That wealth made them the most powerful kings in Dorne, holding the title of High King of Dorne, and gave them control of the pass known as the Boneway, the route connecting Dorne to the Stormlands.

Chapter 2

Aegon's fleeting conquest

4 ACBooks only

When Aegon Targaryen launched his campaign to bring Dorne to heel, Yronwood fell after a short siege, one of the first strongholds to surrender during the First Dornish War. Aegon pressed on to take Sunspear and, believing the conquest settled, returned to King's Landing.

The respite did not last. Within a fortnight, the Dornish retook the captured strongholds, Yronwood among them, and wiped out the garrisons the king had left behind.
