Cletus Yronwood

Cletus Yronwood was the heir to Palosanto and one of Prince Quentyn Martell's closest friends, whom he accompanied on a secret journey through the Free Cities in search of Queen Daenerys Targaryen.

Cheerful and easy company, he was known among his own for his good humor as much as for the affection he held for his cousin Archibald Yronwood, whom he nicknamed the Giant.

Chapter 1

The heir of Palosanto

Cletus was the eldest son of Lord Anders Yronwood and stood to inherit Palosanto after him. His closest bond was with Prince Quentyn Martell, whom he had accompanied for years, and it was Cletus who gave his cousin Archibald Yronwood the nickname the Giant.

He was remembered as a cheerful man, easy company and quick to laugh. A lazy eye did nothing to dim how attractive people found him.

Chapter 3

The deception at Los Tablones

Books only

At Los Tablones, Quentyn and his five Dornish companions boarded a ship without revealing who they were; the prince posed as a wine merchant. On reaching Lys they switched vessels, and used the chance to swap roles as well.

Aboard the Triguero, bound for Volantis, it was Cletus who took on the part of the merchant while Quentyn passed as his servant.

Chapter 4

The ambush on the road to Volantis

With the Triguero anchored off the Disputed Lands, on the way to Volantis, corsairs boarded the ship shortly before dawn. The crew beat them back, but the fighting cost twelve lives, among them Cletus, Ser Willam Wells and Maester Kedry.

The sailors wanted to give them an honorable burial, and asked Quentyn's companions to say a few words about their deeds. Gerris Drinkwater had to improvise lies to keep from giving away who they really were.
