Aliandra Martell

Aliandra Martell was Princess of Dorne and Lady of Sunspear, daughter of Qoren Martell, and head of House Martell at a time when Dorne looked beyond its own borders.

She became princess while still very young and carried her house's ambitions as far as the Stepstones, where the name of Dorne came to carry more weight than ever before.

Chapter 1

The new Nymeria

Books only

Aliandra inherited the title of Princess of Dorne at only seventeen. She measured herself against Nymeria, the queen who had brought her people to Dorne centuries before, and made no secret of it.

She pushed the lords and knights of her court to prove their worth, and the Marches of the Reach felt the results: raids against neighboring lands multiplied under her rule.

In this chapterAlyn Velaryon

A year later, at eighteen, Aliandra met Alyn Velaryon. His campaign to protect the Westlands from Lord Dalton Greyjoy's raids had brought him to Sunspear in search of provisions for his fleet.

The sources disagree on what happened there: one chronicle claims Alyn had to render the princess very intimate services before she would grant him her aid, while another account denies that version.

Chapter 3

The princess's favor

In this chapterBaela Targaryen

Alyn crossed paths with Aliandra again on his return from the Sunset Sea. That was when Drazenko Rogare, sent from Lys, brought word that Prince Viserys Targaryen was still alive, held captive by his own brother, Lysandro Rogare.

Aliandra marked Alyn out with her favor whenever he visited, something Alyn's wife, Baela Targaryen, did not care to hear about so often.

Chapter 4

The Lysene Spring

135 ACBooks only

Dorne emerged as one of the great winners of the War of the Daughters, and Aliandra extended her house's rule over much of the Stepstones.

During the Lysene Spring she married Drazenko Rogare, naming him Prince Consort of Dorne and Lord of the Stepstones. Whether the couple had children is not known.

In 135 AC Drazenko choked to death on bacon, in circumstances some found too convenient: there were those who pointed to the Faceless Men of Braavos.
