Luthor Largent

When King Viserys I died, the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower, gathered the commander of the watch and his captains to sound out their loyalties toward the coming reign of Aegon II. Luthor, then captain of one of the city gates, was among those who declared for the new king, and for that he was raised to Commander of the City Watch.

He was a big, feared man, said to handle a longsword like few others; some claimed he had once dropped a warhorse with a single punch. Hightower did not fully trust him, though: he placed his own son, Gwayne, as Luthor's lieutenant, to keep an eye on him.

After Prince Jaehaerys was murdered in his own chambers, suspicion fell on Mysaria. Luthor sent his men combing through the Street of Silk in search of her, but she slipped away through the alleys, and the Watch had to admit she had gotten away.

When the forces loyal to Rhaenyra reached the city gates, Luthor showed the other six captains where his loyalty had lain all along: with Prince Daemon Targaryen. Those who thought otherwise ended up imprisoned or dead, among them Gwayne Hightower, the very man Otto had set to watch him, killed by Luthor's own hand.

With the watch brought to heel, he ordered the gates opened for Corlys Velaryon's men. Rhaenyra, now mistress of the capital, repaid the gesture with a lordship and a seat on her Privy Council. To anyone who doubted the gold cloaks after they switched sides, Luthor answered plainly: "These cloaks were given to us by Daemon, and they don't change; they're gold on both sides."

The Betrayals at Tumbleton sowed distrust in the Council, and Luthor sided with Lord Bartimos Celtigar, who trusted neither Addam Velaryon nor Nettles. When the queen ordered Ser Addam seized at the Dragonpit, Luthor led the raid, but Addam had already fled — Lord Corlys had gotten word to him first.

Furious, Luthor went to the Tower of the Hand and arrested Lord Corlys himself, accusing him of treason for the warning.

When Queen Helaena died, rumor spread that Luthor had killed her on Rhaenyra's orders. But at that hour he was dining with three hundred gold cloaks in the barracks by the Gate of the Gods, far from where she died.

The riots that later shook the city put him to the test again. It took four hundred spearmen to drive back the sailors storming the River Gate, and five hundred more men to go after the Shepherd and scatter his followers in Cobbler's Square. It is said the first to die there was a girl, run down by Luthor's horse, and that from then on the square turned into a slaughter.

Luthor had his sword torn from him, was stabbed in the belly, and was finished off with cobblestones. His body was so disfigured that he was only identified by his height.
