Arrest of Addam Velaryon and imprisonment of Corlys Velaryon
arresto de Addam Velaryon y prisión de Corlys Velaryon
The arrest of Addam Velaryon and the imprisonment of Corlys Velaryon was an episode of the Dance of the Dragons in which suspicion over a rider's loyalty cost Queen Rhaenyra both a dragon and her Hand.
Word of what had happened reached the fleet that Dragonstone had sent to seize the capital, and it was enough to turn that fleet away from the black cause.
Chapter 1
The suspicion over Addam
130 ACBooks only
After the Two Traitors deserted at Bitterbridge, the Black Council started eyeing Addam Velaryon with suspicion. Only Corlys spoke in his defense, reminding them that he and his brother Alyn were the rightful heirs to Spicetown. It did no good: fearing she had another turncloak among her dragons, Rhaenyra ordered Ser Luthor Largent to arrest him at the Dragonpit.
Addam was warned in time. He flew off on Seasmoke before anyone could so much as question him. Rhaenyra lost a dragon in one stroke, and soon after, her Hand as well: Corlys was tortured and imprisoned for having tipped him off.
Chapter 2
The fleet abandons the queen
130 ACBooks only
Once word spread that Corlys was languishing in a dungeon beneath the Red Keep, the army that had sailed from Dragonstone to seize the Iron Throne turned back and abandoned Rhaenyra's cause. Those who remained could no longer be trusted.
Rhaenyra was left without her fleet, and without the naval strength that had sustained her until then.
