Roland Westerling
Roland Westerling was Lord of the Crag in the years that followed the Dance of the Dragons, when the realm was left in the hands of a boy king and the men who ruled in his name.
His daughter Johanna tied him by marriage to Casterly Rock, and that alliance brought him into the circle of men who steered the Seven Kingdoms during Aegon III Targaryen's long minority.

Jason LannisterRoland had a daughter, Johanna, who married Jason Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock. The marriage bound the Westerlings of the Crag to one of the great houses of the realm and tied their fortunes to the Westerlands.
Jason fell in battle during the Dance of the Dragons, leaving as his heir a four-year-old boy, Loreon. Too young to rule, and so command over the Westerlands passed to Johanna, now a widow, and to her father Roland.

Aegon III Targaryen
Baela TargaryenIn 131 AC, Roland travelled with Johanna to King's Landing for the coronation of Aegon III. Shortly after that journey, he was chosen as one of the seven regents charged with ruling the realm until the king came of age.
Within the council, Roland opposed naming Baela Targaryen as Aegon's heir, arguing that such an appointment would reopen wounds from a war still fresh in memory.
Roland died in King's Landing in 133 AC, an old man by then, carried off by a winter fever.
