Gawen Westerling

Gawen once tried to marry his daughter Jeyne to one of Ser Kevan Lannister's sons, either Martyn or Willem. The proposal went nowhere: his wife Sybell Spicer's lineage was judged too low for the match.

When Lord Tywin Lannister called his bannermen, Gawen answered and joined Ser Jaime Lannister's army. The campaign ended badly for him: he was taken prisoner during the battle of the Whispering Wood, the same fight in which Robb Stark's forces broke the Lannister host.

He was held at Seagard while a ransom was arranged for him. He only left once his daughter Jeyne had married King Robb Stark, a match sealed without his consent.

After the slaughter that wiped out much of his son-in-law's army, the Iron Throne granted Gawen a pardon.

He served with the Lannister-Frey army besieging Riverrun, where he pressed the commanders toward a negotiated end: his wife and children were inside the castle, and he feared what a forced resolution might bring on them. When the garrison surrendered, he was reunited with his family and travelled back with them to the Crag. Whether he knew by then that Sybell had betrayed Robb Stark isn't recorded.
