The Battle of the Seven Stars
Books only
When the Andals crossed the Narrow Sea and landed in the Vale, the Coldwaters threw in with King Robar II Royce to try to hold them back. It went badly: they were beaten at the Battle of the Seven Stars.
Keeping what was left of their line came at a price. They handed over gold, land and hostages, and knelt before Artys Arryn, the first of his name to claim the title King of Mountain and Vale.
Chapter 2
The Vale's war of succession

Generations later, the death of Lady Jeyne Arryn, Lady of the Eyrie, left the Vale without a clear head. The murder of the regent Ser Corwyn Corbray, during the reign of Aegon III Targaryen, set off a war of succession among claimants to the Eyrie.
The Coldwaters picked a side in that fight: they backed Ser Arnold Arryn and House Royce.
