House Farring
Casa Farring
House Farring answers to the Baratheons of King's Landing from the Crownlands, with no source giving it a seat of its own. Its arms, two knights crossing swords on a field split purple and silver, suit a family whose members keep turning up on different fronts at once.
Ser Gilbert, Ser Godry and Bryen Farring are the three names on record: knights in direct royal service, some holding Storm's End and others riding with King Stannis Baratheon on campaign.
Chapter 1
The sept and the garrison
Books only
At Dragonstone, Bryen Farring is present when the statues of the Seven burn in the sept, one of the moves by which Stannis Baratheon breaks with the old faith.
Far off at Storm's End, Ser Gilbert Farring is left in command of the garrison the king leaves behind.
Chapter 2
The war splits up
Books only
When the bulk of Stannis's army marches for the Wall, Ser Gilbert Farring stays in charge of the Storm's End garrison, holding the castle in the absent king's name.
Godry Farring and Bryen, meanwhile, go with the column that stays with Stannis.
Chapter 3
The march to Winterfell
Books only
Godry and Bryen Farring follow King Stannis when he marches to Deepwood Motte.
Bryen never reaches Winterfell: he dies during the long march, and his companions burn his body on a funeral pyre.
