House Redbeard
Casa Barbarroja
House Redbeard is the name Queen Selyse Florent gives to the family of Gerrick, a wildling explorer who claims descent from Raymun Redbeard, a former King-Beyond-the-Wall.
Its brief place in the story comes from the truce the wildlings strike with the Night's Watch and the marriages Selyse herself arranges for his daughters.
Chapter 1
The name a queen gave them
Books only
Selyse Florent is the one who coins the name: she calls Gerrick's family House Redbeard because he presents himself as a descendant of Raymun Redbeard, a King-Beyond-the-Wall of times past. Gerrick himself feeds that fame by styling himself Redbeard's Blood.
But the kinship is not what he claims: he actually descends from a younger brother of Raymun, known among the wildlings as the Red Crow, not from the king himself.
Chapter 2
The truce at the Wall and the betrothals
Books only
Gerrick is one of the leaders who accompany Tormund when he brings his people to the Wall to strike a truce with the black brothers. As a guarantee of the agreement, he hands over his son to be held hostage by the Night's Watch.
Queen Selyse uses the family's arrival to weave alliances: she marries Gerrick's three daughters to Ser Axell Florent, Ser Brus Buckler, and Ser Malegorn of Redpool.
