House Tarly of Horn Hill

House Tarly of Horn Hill is a noble house of the Reach, sworn to House Tyrell and seated in the hills that stretch beneath the Red Mountains of Dorne.
Among its relics is the Valyrian steel blade Heartsbane, and its words, First in Battle, are a boast more than one of its lords has backed up with a spear in hand on an actual battlefield.

In the days of Aenys I Targaryen, a Tarly remembered as Sam the Fierce was among the marcher lords who joined the pursuit known as the Vulture Hunt.
Chapter 2
The brides Horn Hill offered

When Queen Jaehaera Targaryen died and the throne passed to a boy king, Aegon III, Lady Samantha Tarly wrote to the young king with a list of possible brides. Among the names she put forward alongside those of other great Reach houses were maidens of her own blood.
Chapter 3
The huntsman among the banners of Ashford
Books only
At the tourney held at Ashford, the house's red huntsman flew among the arms the young Ser Duncan managed to recognize, and a Tarly, Ser Samwyle, entered as one of the competitors.
At a different tourney, undated in what survives, the father of the future Lord Randyll Tarly was unhorsed by the lance of Ser Denys Mallister.
Chapter 4
Horn Hill's vanguard at Ashford
Books only
When the war that put Robert Baratheon on the Iron Throne broke out, Lord Randyll Tarly took command of the Reach's vanguard and led it to Ashford. There he killed Lord Cafferen and forced Robert himself to retreat from the field.
The victory, however, was credited to Lord Mace Tyrell, who claimed it as his own.
