Horn Hill

Legend holds that two brothers raised the castle: Harlon, called the Hunter, and Herndon, who carried a hunting horn and lent the place his name. Back then, before the kings of the Reach seized the western lands, the domain they ruled stretched from Horn Hill all the way to Nightsong.

Aegon I Targaryen spent half of every year touring the realm, and Horn Hill was among the stops he returned to time and again on those progresses.

After seizing Blackhaven, the so-called Vulture King split his host in two and led half of it against Horn Hill and Nightsong. Nightsong held, so he turned his forces on Horn Hill instead, where he was surrounded and beaten by Lord Samwell Tarly the Fierce alongside Lady Ellyn Caron and Lord Harmon Dondarrion.

Returning from Oldtown toward King's Landing, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and his wife and sister Alysanne chose the long road, through the Dornish Marches and the Stormlands, stopping along the way at Horn Hill, Nightsong, and Blackhaven.

Two warlocks from Qarth sacrificed an aurochs at Horn Hill and bathed the young Samwell Tarly in its blood, promising it would give him the courage he lacked. It did nothing, and Lord Randyll Tarly had the warlocks whipped for the fraud.

Renly Baratheon had made camp at Horn Hill when Lord Randyll received a letter from Stannis, in which he claimed that the children of the late King Robert Baratheon were not his own.

Samwell Tarly considers sending Gilly and the baby to Horn Hill, to live under the roof of his mother, Melessa Florent.
