Gogossos
Gogossos is a ruined city on the Isle of Tears, off the northern coast of Sothoryos. Born as a Ghiscari Empire colony under the name Gorgai, it fell into the hands of the Dragonlords of Valyria and became the darkest corner of the Basilisk Isles: a dumping ground for the Free Hold's worst criminals and the birthplace of a blood magic feared across those waters.
Chapter 1
The Ghiscari city

On the southern shore of the Isle of Tears, facing the coast of Sothoryos, the Ghiscari Empire raised a city it called Gorgai. It stood for nearly two centuries, though some historians say four; the disagreement has never been settled.
Across the water, on the mainland coast, two other traces of that same lost world remained: the ruins of Zamettar by the shore and, further inland, those of Yeen.
Chapter 2
The Valyrian renaming

During the Third Ghiscari War, the Dragonlords of the Valyrian Freehold seized the city and gave it a new name: Gogossos.
From then on the island served a different purpose. Valyria began sending its worst criminals there, condemned to forced labour, and under that regime the place became a land of dungeons where torturers devised new torments, of blood magic in its darkest form, and of women forced to bear twisted, half-human children by beasts.
Chapter 3
The Bloody Century and the red death

During the Bloody Century, Gogossos — which some called the Tenth Free City — grew rich on slavery and sorcery. Its slave markets came to rival in fame those of the old Ghiscari cities on Slaver's Bay.
Seventy-seven years after the Doom of Valyria, a plague broke out in the city's slave pens. The red death spread first across the island and then through the rest of the Basilisk Isles, killing nine of every ten men amid blood and screaming.
