Puerto Gaviota
Gulltown is the largest city in the Vale of Arryn, a port opening onto the Bay of Crabs that links the region to the rest of Westeros and to the Free Cities.
Its importance is not only commercial: when snow closes the mountain roads, its docks are the only door the Vale has left to the outside world.
Chapter 1
The gate to the sea

Gulltown stands on the Vale's coast, southeast of the Eyrie, where the Bay of Crabs begins to open onto open water. It's the largest city in the region, and House Grafton has ruled it for generations.
Its docks take in ships coming from King's Landing and from Braavos, as well as those sailing down from the North looking for shelter. That opening to the sea is what lets the Vale bring in grain, timber, or whatever else it needs from across the water, even when snow chokes the mountain passes in the depths of winter.
Chapter 2
The fleet that never made port

One of the naval battles of the War of Conquest was fought off its coast: the Vale's fleet beat back the Targaryen ships commanded by Daemon Velaryon, Aegon the Conqueror's Master of Ships. According to the Atlas's verified timeline, that was around the year -2.
Centuries later, in 282, Gulltown saw another naval clash, this time during Robert's Rebellion. The material gives no further details about that second fight.

The man at the customs house
