The Eyrie

After Jon Arryn's death, his widow Lysa Tully flees to the Eyrie with their only heir, Robert. She shuts herself away there, far from the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, convinced that within those seven towers her son will be safe.

Catelyn Tully later arrives at her sister's castle with a prisoner, Tyrion Lannister, whom she accuses of trying to kill her son Bran. Tyrion demands trial by combat and names the sellsword Bronn as his champion; in the scuffle, the statue presiding over the garden — a weeping Alyssa Arryn — is shattered.

With the war already underway, Petyr Baelish arrives at the Eyrie as Lysa Tully's new husband. Sansa Stark travels with him, hidden under the name Alayne Stone and passed off as his bastard daughter.

Lysa's jealousy of Sansa finally boils over beside the Moon Door, the white door that opens straight onto empty air: she tries to throw the girl through it. At the last moment, it is Petyr who pushes Lysa through instead.

While the rest of Westeros burns with war, the Eyrie stays out of it. But Petyr Baelish's appointment as Lord Protector of the Vale unsettles the lords of the Vale, who surround the castle and cut off its food supply until the matter is settled.

The siege is lifted after a meeting between those Lords Declarant and Baelish. Winter arrives soon after, severing all contact with the rest of the Vale: the castle is shut up and its people descend the mountain to settle at the Gates of the Moon.
