Orkmont
Monteorca
Orkmont is one of the Iron Islands, set in the Iron Bay, as rocky as it is rich in ore beneath its surface.
It was the birthplace of two lines that once wore the crown of salt and stone, and today it still houses the houses Orkwood, Tawney, and Goodbrother.
Chapter 1
Stone beneath the felled woods

The island is a mass of stone and mountain, its ground threaded with iron, lead, and tin. Woodland once covered it, but the ironborn felled it whole to raise keels and hulls.
Chapter 2
The first High King
Books only
Urras Greyiron ruled the island as its Salt King before the other iron houses bowed to him above all others. With that crowning, Orkmont gave the isles their first High King.
Chapter 3
Routes to the south
Books only
Under the kings of House Hoare, merchants from Orkmont sailed to Lannisport and Oldtown, and on to the Free Cities. Trade opened the island to a world it rarely touched with steel.
Chapter 4
A throne that did not last

When Harren the Black burned to death at Harrenhal, a man of Orkmont rose and named himself king. The struggle over the isles gave him no peace: they killed him soon after he claimed the crown.

Robert's conquest

When the Greyjoys rose against the Iron Throne, Robert Baratheon's forces reached Orkmont and brought it to heel. The island that once gave kings now bent the knee to one it had not chosen.
