Lannisport

The city stands walled on the coast of the Sunset Sea, where the River Road, the Golden Road and the Ocean Road all meet, a short way west of Casterly Rock. It is smaller than King's Landing and Oldtown, but it leaves Gulltown, White Harbor and every other town in Westeros behind: the largest city in the Westerlands and one of the great ports of the Seven Kingdoms.

The Lannister fleet rests at its docks. Its workshops are known across half the world for goldwork, and its City Watch is said to be better trained than the ones in King's Landing or Oldtown. House Lannister of Lannisport, a cadet branch of the lords of the Rock, lives there, alongside dozens of families named Lanny, Lannett, Lantell and others who claim the same blood — half of them, it's said, wear the golden Lannister hair.

Fire has come down on Lannisport more times than anyone would care to count. Ironborn raiders have burned it as many as three times and struck it in two dozen other raids, and among those blows were the incursions Dalton Greyjoy launched against the western coast.

Fire came by land too: during the Blackfyre Rebellion, Ser Quentyn Ball attacked the city and killed Lord Lefford outside its walls.

The Great Spring Sickness struck a different kind of blow, one with no swords or axes: Lannisport was counted among the cities the plague hit hardest.

During the Greyjoy Rebellion the city knew both triumph and disaster in the same war. Ironborn raiders fell on the harbor by surprise and set fire to the whole Lannister fleet moored there.

When the war ended with House Greyjoy's defeat, King Robert I ordered a tourney held at Lannisport to celebrate the victory.

It was there that Ser Jorah Mormont was crowned champion, named Lynesse Hightower his Queen of Love and Beauty, and, once the tourney was over, asked for her hand in marriage.

After the defeat at the Battle of Oxcross, what remained of Ser Stafford Lannister's army was forced to fall back on Lannisport.

It wasn't a random choice: the port was where many of those men had been recruited and trained before the war.
