Rosby

Rosby is a small settlement north of King's Landing, little more than a widening of the road formed by mud-and-thatch huts around a castle, seat of House Rosby.

It lies on the shortest route to Duskendale and close to the capital, making it a constant stop for travelers and one of the lands that supplies King's Landing with grain and apples.

Chapter 1

Land of the river kings

Books only

Long before the Seven Kingdoms existed, Rosby was already caught up in the rivalries among the lords of the Trident. King Benedict II Justman added these lands to his realm during a long reign, along with Duskendale and the mouth of the Blackwater Rush.

Generations later, Halleck Hoare, King of the Isles and the Rivers, pushed his borders out to Rosby and Duskendale once more, though the village remained little more than a stop along the road.

The war's granary

299 ACBooks only

During the War of the Five Kings, much of the grain that fed King's Landing came from Rosby and neighboring Stokeworth.

Queen Cersei Lannister secretly sent Prince Tommen Baratheon to shelter at Rosby, to make things harder for Stannis Baratheon even if he took the capital. Tyrion Lannister learned of the plan and had the party intercepted; Ser Jacelyn Bywater caught the escort by surprise, and Lord Gyles Rosby, too ill to flee, ordered the castle gates opened without a fight.

Falyse Stokeworth and her husband meant to spend the night at the castle when Lord Gyles's young ward refused them entry, and Falyse feared the boy meant to claim the lands and title for himself.

When Lord Gyles died leaving no legitimate heir, Queen Cersei considered handing the castle and its lands to one of her own as reward for loyal service.
